HashtagPLUS

Read, tag and share the web by topic, no account needed

HashtagPLUS is a news feed you build out of topics rather than people. Paste a link with a short caption and it lands in the feeds for its hashtags, where anyone can read it, vote on it, or argue about it in the comments. Click through and you land on the original site. It is free, and you do not need an account to join in.

Free to use. There's no checkout, paid tier, or subscription anywhere in the app.

Who it's for

  • People who are done with algorithmic timelines

You follow hashtags, not personalities, so the feed is the one you asked for. New and Top are open to anyone. Recommended and Following fill in once you follow a few tags, and Hot switches on when enough people are using the site each day. The /algorithms page spells out how each feed ranks, scoring weights included.

  • Anyone who wants to read without signing up

No email, no password, no wall in front of the content. Your browser gets a signed cookie and an anonymous name, and that is enough to browse, post, vote, and comment. Register later and your anonymous posts and comments come across to the new account.

  • Writers and site owners

When someone posts your article, the link goes straight to your site in a new tab. The read happens on your page, not inside the feed. Posts carry an author record too, and you can file a claim on the author profile built from your own writing.

Use cases

  • Read the story, not the page around it

Posts open with the article already cleaned up: no nav bar, no ads, no popup asking for your email. Read it in the feed or full width on the post page, and the link to the original site is right there when you want it.

  • Follow a source without remembering to check it

Add an RSS feed and every new item gets pulled in and tagged the same way a pasted link is. There is a feed directory to browse and follow, so the sites you care about turn up in your topics on their own.

  • See why a feed ranks what it ranks

The /algorithms page writes out the rules behind each feed: how fast a post goes stale, what a vote is worth, how bookmarks and comments count, and how much a followed tag boosts something. You can tune your own weights instead of guessing at a black box.

  • Fix a tag that does not fit

Tags come off the page itself where it has them, and get generated where it does not. If one is wrong, take it off. The removal is logged as feedback.

  • Argue about something at two in the morning

Threaded comments, votes, and bookmarks work whether you are signed in or not, so reading and replying are the same two clicks.
